WOHS ICE HOCKEY FUNDRAISER - Currently each player on the WOHS Ice Hockey Team is required to pay $200 to help defray the cost of buying ice time for practices which is approximately $375 for each 1 1/2 hour session. In order for the team to get as much time on the ice as possible to compete with other schools, the Ice Hockey Team is holding a Shop Rite Gift Card fundraiser. For every $2000 worth of gift cards that we sell, Shop Rite will donate $100 to our team. The gift cards are sold in denominations of $10, $20, $25 or $50 and are usable at the store just like cash. Please contact Lou Belardo at 973-669-0438 or cell 973-981-1523 or email Brddg1806@comcast.net to arrange for delivery of your gift cards. If you use email, please put “Shop Rite Gift Cards” in the subject line. Thank you in advance for your support of the WOHS Ice Hockey Team!
COMMUNITY SERVICE STATE PILOT - Beginning with the graduating class of 2008, students in the State of New Jersey will be required to perform 15 hours of community service in their junior year. West Orange High School has been selected as one of thirty school districts from across the state to serve as a pilot program to make recommendations as how to most effectively implement this requirement. As a pilot program, pilot coordinators have been asked to expand the community service opportunities of our students, create a database to assess what forms of community service are already being performed by our students and to build relationships with area organizations looking to afford students the chance to become involved in their community. As a pilot school, the coordinators will be asked to make recommendations to the state how a community service component can be implemented as a state graduation requirement. The pilot initiative is being headed by Mr. Charles Sampson, Assistant Principal at WOHS and Mr. Vic Paglio, Cooperative Education Coordinator at WOHS. Any area organization or individual, who has a need for high school volunteers in a community service capacity, can contact Mr. Sampson at csampson@woboe.org or at 973-669-5301 x207 or Mr. Paglio at vpaglio@woboe.org or at 973-669-5301 x342.
